Sailing Lesson & Cruise FAQ in Emerald Isle, NC

Everything you need to know before you set sail with us. If you don't see your question here, reach out — we'd love to help.

What is included in a private sailing session?
Every session is fully private — just your group, a USCG master captain, and a Hobie Cat catamaran. Sessions run roughly three and a half hours on the Intracoastal Waterway in Emerald Isle. Safety equipment is provided.
Who is the captain?
Sessions are led by USCG Master Captain Zach — an ASA certified sailor with extensive experience sailing Hobie Cats on the waters of Emerald Isle.
Do I need any sailing experience?
No experience needed. Our private lessons and cruise welcome everyone — from first-time sailors to seasoned crew.
Is sailing comfortable for beginners? Will I get seasick?
Very comfortable, and no guests have ever been seasick on our Hobie Cat. Catamarans ride on two hulls, which is far more stable than a traditional sailboat, with rare rocking through wakes. There's also no boom to duck under, so nothing swings overhead. Even guests who get seasick on other boats feel at ease.
How many people can come?
Maximum of 850 pounds of riders. Sessions are ideal for couples, families, and small groups.
How long is each session?
Plan for approximately three and a half hours, including a brief orientation before we set sail.
What should I bring? What should I wear?
Wear clothing you don't mind getting wet, sandals/flip flops, sunscreen, a hat, and sunglasses with a strap. Bring water and a towel. We'll provide the safety equipment.
What if the weather isn't safe?
Safety always comes first. If conditions become unsafe — wind, storms, lightning, small craft advisories — we may need to reschedule. You are never penalized for weather cancellations. We'll work with you to find another date that works.
Do you offer gift cards?
Yes. Choose amount at checkout and we'll email a one-time card code. Gift cards can be used toward cruises or lessons. See the Gift Cards page for details.
How do I book?
Book by email at emeraldislesail@gmail.com or by phone at (252) 515-4775. Email is the fastest way to reach us. If we don't answer, we're likely sailing. Leave your name, phone number, and when you're in town, and we'll return your call as soon as possible.
